Rugs, Big Men, and Little Speedos

“Where is your living room rug from?” is easily the question I get the most on Instagram, and I feel like it’s well-deserved.  It took me a long time to realize that rugs can absolutely go over carpet.  As much as I LOVE the comfy factor of the brown carpet in our house, the color bums me out.  For a few years (literally), I thought I had to replace the carpet with wood floors before I could put down a rug I like.  FALSE.  I ordered about 32 rugs in March of 2017, used my on-spring-break-and-visiting brother and brother-in-law to help me test them all around the house (and then also used them to help me load up the 27 return rugs).  Each of my rooms now boasts are large rug that literally sets the tone for the whole room, and I’m pleased to say, the tone is no longer brown.  Like most of you, my favorite find is this living room rug:

While my exact living room rug is no longer available, you can find a similar one HERE or HERE, and I’ve rounded up a list of MY latest alternative rug favorites.  These are the start of the collection I’d order if I was rugging my house now.  Take a deep breath before you look at the prices – a big rug isn’t cheap, but it completely transforms your room, and don’t even try to think  you can size down to save some money.  A too small rug is like a big dude in a little speedo – no one cares how cute the speedo is, if it doesn’t fit the guy wearing it, all it says is THIS IS WRONG!  For most homes and even large apartments, set your minimum at 8×10, but plan to go for a 9×12.  If you can’t swing these prices, start browsing your local HomeGoods once or twice a month.  I’ve almost completely rugged my friend’s new home in 9x12s or bigger at $299 a pop.  It just takes commitment and some patience 🙂
