Ellie waited so patiently during the six weeks between Mina’s birthday and April 1 for her turn to be IT. Quarantine notwithstanding, we did not disappoint her.
I had grand dreams of making the cutest ice cream stand, and it executed good enough for the party, but really, the girls most enjoyed playing with pvc pipe and parts while I constructed it, the excitement of the construction, and the 3 days of playing with it before the party than anything else. That’s a pretty good consolation prize for my small disappoint it didn’t turn out to be something we’ll be keeping.
Thankfully, since we still see (and work with) Daniel’s side of the family most days, and weren’t/aren’t attempting to quarantine from them, Ellie got to party with about 55 people, including her four favorite cousins, Scarlett, Serena, Hannah, and James. She begged to decorate her own cake, and (since I made two) she absolutely got her wish – which I’ve decided is the new plan. I’ll make it, ice it, and provide curated sprinkles, and let my kids decorate their own cakes. WAY more fun than trying to nail a perfect cake myself, for all of us! She was the recipient of presents, the one that got to blow out the candles, and the happiest kid to be hosting all her friends.
I miss having the energy to go full-out on the party, but I still love to party with my kids. We were happy to loop in a few local businesses for this one, including Collective Creative Co. for the balloon decor, Koetsier Gardens for the fresh ranunculus blooms, and Vejars for the food!
